The portrait of one of the most fascinating cities in the world that, between whites and blacks and bright lights, like a magnet attracts everyone around the orbits. Like no other place in the world, New York City is, with its unique style, the metaphor of contemporary society and the photographer Ivan Cazzola captures the spirit through his pure eye, without mediations, recording contradictory moods of the "street" where splendor and terror coexist together.
In the shots presented in this exhibition by Burning Giraffe Art Gallery, from January 22 to March 7, 2015, representative of all its artistic research, it is clear that a certain duality of style and aesthetics represents a true trademark of the artist. Whether it is the iconic portraits of characters, such as Orlando Bloom, Joan As Police Woman, Dave Timson, Mik Lennard, OK GO, Yohji Yamamoto, XX, These New Puritans, Juliette Lewis, Mark "The Gonz" Gonzales and Charlotte Free or work more documentary on youth counter-culture, or even the shots for fashion, we can find the same bold vision, sometimes almost impertinent, but at the same time deep and evocative.
Ivan Cazzola has accumulated over the years a great experience, working with magazines (Vogue, Dazed & Confused, iD) and fashion labels, including Milan, London, Paris and New York, arriving to the video as director of several short movies. With his shots has explored various worlds, from a reality closer and autobiographical, to shots of models, artists, rock bands, movie stars, gangsters, decadent bourgeois, all with a consistent style through one eye often intimate, to sometimes cheeky, but always iconic and provocative. In 2010 he was nominated by the magazine Dazed & Confused as one of the most interesting photographers in the international scene.
