Palazzo Arsenale of Turin, seat of the Command for the Army's Training and Application School, will host from October 28 to November 30, 2014 a large art project and an extraordinary operation of solidarity in support of an initiative by the great humanitarian value.
This is the show Ninety artists for a flag, sponsored by the non-profit organization treat chaired by Deanna Ferretti Veroni and Panathlon Modena, under the patronage of the Minister of Defense, the Joint Chiefs of Staff, the General Staff of the Army, the City of Turin and the Piedmont Region. Main sponsor. Unicredit.
The exhibition, which continues its path after the first three stages of Reggio Emilia (Cloisters of San Domenico), Modena (Palazzo Ducale, seat of the Academy of Modena) and Rome (the Vittoriano - Shrine of the flags), presents the ninety works of contemporary artists, both Italian and international, who discussed the theme of the Italian flag.
The show was created with the aim of raising awareness of the project and raise funds for the construction of the new hospital MIRE - Maternity Childhood Reggio Emilia.
The new building, located within the Hospital Santa Maria Nuova, will have as its objective the protection of women's health, of the mother, the couple's infant and child and will be characterized as cozy and homely place, with the most modern technologies and skills associated with features that allow the best ways to care. The 12,500 square meters, distributed in floors, will house the facilities of Pediatrics, Gynecology, Obstetrics, Medically Assisted Reproduction, Neonatology, Surgical, Child Neuropsychiatry.
The 90 artists involved have donated their work generally for the benefit of the initiative, but they have promised to make one from a particular flag, chosen from among those donated by the Municipality of Reggio Emilia, which were exhibited in 2011 in the city of Tricolor on the occasion of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy.
These are the flags tied to the rise of the idea of the unification of Italy: the flag adopted January 7, 1797 in Reggio Emilia, the Jacobin and Napoleonic age, the flags of the riots and popular uprisings during the Risorgimento, the of the pre-unification states, flags of Unity and the Kingdom of Italy, the various versions of the flag of the Republic adopted, and ending with those used, even recently, for targets of great social and ethical manner.
The flags "adopted" by the artists are the ones who were exposed for a year on the streets of the city of Emilia part of the "Roads of the Flag", which was inaugurated by the President of the Republic Giorgio Napolitano January 7, 2011 as part of the celebrations of 150 anniversary of the Unification of Italy and organized by the Municipality of Reggio Emilia in collaboration with the technical Unit of Mission for the Celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Italian Unification, the Italian Encyclopedia Institute and the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia.
There have been several ways to create works: some artists have taken on the flag itself, or a part thereof; others have used to insert fragments through collage in their work; still others have created a completely independent: the flag assigned to them has become a direct source of inspiration for references of colors, written and drawn shapes.
The entire project, from the involvement of artists in the realization of the exhibition and the catalog that accompanies it, was edited by Sandro Parmiggiani, critic and art historian.
Subsequently, the works will be sold to raise funds for the construction of the future hospital, with the aim however to preserve the integrity of the event and make it a sort of permanent collection.
The catalog (Corsiero publisher, pp. 250; Euro 20) presents all the works by individual artists, their biographies and flags, already exposed to the 150th, with its historical descriptions.
