In the Savoy Palace of Reggia di Venaria, from 21 March to 30 August 2015, the exhibition "The art of Beauty. The jewels of Gianmaria Buccellati" presents over 90 precious specimens, many of them unpublished, that demonstrate how creativity, tradition and excellent craftsmanship have become the building blocks of success Gianmaria Buccellati in the world.
The exhibition, curated by Chiara Tinonin with Gianmaria Buccellati and Rosie, is the result of collaboration between the "Consortium La Venaria Reale", the "Foundation Gianmaria Buccellati" and the "Foundation for the Study of Art and Goldsmiths of its protagonists", with the coordination of the Swiss Luxury Culture Management. The exhibition traces the fascinating history of artistic and entrepreneurial Gianmaria Buccellati and ambitions of his genius, even through his own memories and the photos of the photographer Giò Martorana that return in a striking visual itinerary's purposes aesthetic style Buccellati.
The route is divided into three sections and tells the extraordinary ability to Gianmaria Buccellati to understand and process the precious material, which led to the emergence of innovative creations in dialogue with the past. Gianmaria has in fact been able to look with great interest to the different artistic expressions of antiquity, the Renaissance and Rococo art, as an inexhaustible source of inspiration to draw motifs and themes to rework and apply to different types of precious artefacts.
The first section offers a journey of childhood Gianmaria in Milan in between the two world wars, which sees the affirmation of the father as the first Mario Italian jeweler sensitive recovery of ancient goldsmith techniques Renaissance, near the Milanese high society and the cultural environments of scale, as well as a great friend of Gabriele D'Annunzio. With the contribution of the art historian Paola Goretti, is exposed for the first time the entire series of plates that the poet commissioned him to remember his deeds and sayings that had coined to celebrate some of his most famous actions.
Magnificent specimens and unpublished jewelery Mario Buccellati '30s and' 40s introduced the second section "An Italian in the world", which traces the most significant stages in the career of Gianmaria after collecting the legacy of his father, who died in 1965.
After directing two years laboratories created by his father, Gianmaria, pushed from the large vision of the international market, many shops open in the Far East, particularly in Hong Kong and Japan, and Europe. Its success is enshrined opening in 1979 of a boutique in Paris in the prestigious Place Vendôme, sanctuary world of haute joaillerie.
The growth of his company has gone hand in hand to the artistic consecration. The awards are bestowed and exhibitions from the most important museums worldwide, such as the Smithsonian Institution in Washington DC, the Kremlin Museum in Moscow and, recently, the Silver Museum of Palazzo Pitti in Florence. On display is a selection of creations performed in over seventy years of work that made her unique style in the history of contemporary jewelery. One example is the Grand Dame brooch, designed to honor motherhood, using a rare pearl Melo-Melo, seas of Vietnam, thirteenth by color and size of about one hundred specimens exist.
The path ends ideally with the celebration of the creative mastery, planning and execution of Gianmaria Buccellati through unique objects, intended as true works of art (third section): including Cups Boscoreale that Mario and Gianmaria performed inspiration Treasury Boscoreale discovered in 1895 in the Roman villa of Pisanella; and Valuables, cups of great value, born from the study and passion for jewelery collections Florentine Renaissance, which were not designed for commercial purposes.
The inspiration for this collection was born during a visit to the Museo degli Argenti in Palazzo Pitti in Florence which houses the masterpieces of jewelry of the Medici. Deeply fascinated by these artifacts, Gianmaria decided to compete in creating works that could compete for playing technique, splendor and richness, with the Medici.
On display at Venaria you can also admire the Cup of Queen, built in 2008 for the exhibition at the Museum of the Kremlin, the Rainbow Cup of 2012, conceived as a tribute to Venus, goddess of love and beauty, whose image in gold is the hub of the entire structure, the Cup of the Holy Grail of 2013, personal interpretation of the chalice with which Jesus celebrated the Last Supper, and the Cup Florentia, presented for the first time at the recent exhibition at the Museo degli Argenti in Florence, in recognition of the city that more than any other has been able to stimulate through its art treasures imagination goldsmith Milan.
