The American painter Tom Parish is back for the third time in Venice with a retrospective exhibition that summarizes the most recent years of his career, almost entirely devoted to the representation of the lagoon city.
The proposal by Tom Parish in Venice is a city in compact appearance and synthetic, which are highlighted simpler forms and spread, leaving the larger space objects and the harmony of nature, especially water, mirror on the sharp which everything is multiple representations.
The artist, delicate and meticulous reading of the element in Nature, but decided in the representation of form and the taking of an intense chromatic scale, at the same time can engage and enrapture the viewer who identifies herself spontaneously in his same state of mind, in the slow and careful observation of reality and its silent and imperceptible changes.
After the exhibition of 2009, "Large Windows / Large Windows" (Scoleta of Battioro and Tiraoro) Tom Parish opened on their own cultural reflections on the past and on visions of the city painted with a touch of magic, and after "Songs silent Venice / Silent Songs of Venice" of 2012 (Diocesan Museum) where the protagonist was silent contemplation of the Water element, this new chapter "Venetian" by the Detroit itself as a veritable compendium of his work in Venice. Hence the choice of venue: a place "open", where art and reality mingle and become one.
The exhibition at the Cloister of the Church of Our Lady of the Garden is composed of large-scale works, and its path is ideally completed at the site of the Old Sacristy of Venice Restaurant, which will host for the duration of the exposure other works by Tom Parish.
And it's accompanied by a catalog with texts by Joe Parisi (writer and historian of Chicago) and Francesca Canu, architect and photographer, assistant to architectural and urban design at the Faculty of Architecture at La Sapienza University in Rome.
Tom Parish, (Hibbing- Minnesota, 1933) lives and works in Detroit. He practices his art from early childhood, but it's artistically born during the heroic period of American art of the '50s and '60s. Gave rise to the Cass Corridor Group, young avant-garde of his hometown and has influenced several generations of artists of Wayne State University, at which he was Professor of Painting and which is now Professor Emeritus. Witness and actor of several new languages ??that characterized the twentieth century, particularly Surrealism , depicts Tom Parish in Venice for over twenty five years.
