One of the most famous piazzas in the city, also because of the presence of its famous market since 1869, throughout history it has also been used for running races, horse races and executions. It occupies the location of the Temple of Venere Vincitrice, next to the theatre of Pompeo and the name “de’ Fiori”, probably comes from the name of a woman loved by the roman triumvirate, Flora, or more simply from the field that grew here in the Fifteenth Century because of neglect.
THINGS TO KNOW: The monument at the center, dedicated to Giordano Bruno, attests to the execution, on that very spot, of the celebrated dominican philosopher, condemned to be burned at the stake on 17 February 1600 by the Catholic Church on charges of heresy.
