Musical Angels
Vaticano, Prati
- Artist: Melozzo da Forlì
- Location: Musical Angels
- Date: 1472
Sixtus IV commissioned the paintings, but in 1711 they were torn out of the apse of the Church of the Holy Apostles in Rome (Chiesa dei Santi Apostoli) when it was undergoing renovations, and divided into 16 pieces. All the pieces are here except for the head of an angel at the Prado and Cristo in Ascensione at the Qurinale.
Other famous frescoes by Melozzo at the Vaticani are Sisto IV Nomina Platina Prefetto della Biblioteca Vaticana (1477 ca.), painted for the library founded by Sixtus IV in 1475.
