Built by Jacopo Sansovino between 1537 and 1549, it becomes the core of the square renovation works made by the architect, because it stresses the role played by the campanile, that the building of the Library had left isolated, as a link between the Piazza and the Piazzetta and celebrates the city with images of Venice as the embodiment of Justice. The terrace with its elegant balustrade was added between the XVII and XVIII century. Involved in the campanile collapse of 1902, it was rebuilt with its original fragments.
