San Zaccaria Altarpiece
The altar piece, signed and dated, is a splendid example of compositional harmony. The painted pillars are perfectly alike the marble ones, while the saints are symmetrically arranged on the sides of the Virgin throne: Peter and Catherine to the left, Girolamo and Lucy to the right. In the middle, next to the scroll, the music-playing angel beckons the spectator to contemplation.
