It is located in a key position between the Cannaregio, San Marco and Castello districts. It is one of the largest and most lively campo of the city. In the past, parties, bull hunts and outdoor plays were performed. It is surrounded by important palaces including, at street no. 6129, the late-Gothic palace of Sebastiano Venier, the famous winner of the Battle of Lepanto (1571); Palazzo Vitturi (no. 5246), the oldest palace of the campo, dating back to the XIII century and Palazzo Malipiero-Trevisan, with its XVI-century facade of Istria stone and marble inserts (no. 5250).
