Built by Pier Luigi Nervi and Marcello Piacentini for the Rome Olympics of 1960, along with the small Palazzetto of Viale Tiziano, on which Nervi collaborated with Annibale Vitellozzi. It is considered one of the masterpieces of italian rationalist architecture.
From 1999 to 2003, the architect Fuksas modernized the building thanks to funding from Lottomatica, that earned the right to rename the complex Palalottomatica. The complex, which today hosts sporting events, concerts and theatre is characterized by an enormous dome that has a diameter of 95 meters.
