Lucca - Saturday, July 5th, 2014, the Church of Santa Caterina, a municipal property, reopens after 18 months of restoration and consolidation works.

The work was entirely funded by the MIBACT as a result of a campaign carried on by the FAI. In the 2010 ranking of the national project "I luoghi del cuore" the church reached the third place, with 19,238 votes.

The restoration of the building, the major example of Baroque religious buildings in Lucca, built in 1738 by architect Francesco Pini and decorated by Bartolomeo de' Santi and Lorenzo Castellotti, required the structural consolidation and redevelopment of the painted surfaces.
The Laboratorio di Restauro of the Soprintendenza restored also the two altarpieces with the "Glory in the name of Jesus" and the "Madonna and Child appearing to Saint Anthony of Padua."

After the opening, the results of the restoration will be presented in the Auditorium of San Romano Tuesday, July 8th at 9:30 am, followed by a tour of the church. In the following days this place will host classical music concerts and guided tours.
