Venice - From May 20th to 23rd, 2014, the Teatrino di Palazzo Grassi will present two films directed by Riccardo De Cal, which will lead the audience to discover the path between Carlo Scarpa and Venice. The story of this important architect and his work will develop through two of his most important projects: the Fondazione Querini Stampalia and the Negozio Olivetti in Piazza San Marco.

The movie "Hortus Conclusus", shoot in 2007 , will focus on the Fondazione Querini Stampalia and the way in which the architectural elements blend with the natural ones of the garden. Here, De Cal starts from the premise that the cinema is perhaps the easiest way to tell an architectural object, since it is able to render dynamically its spaces and its sounds.

The most recent "Genius Loci", 2014, instead will cover the restoration and reopening of the Negozio Olivetti in Piazza San Marco, and will document the renovation of a historic place, in which Scarpa combined his attention to details and his careful choice of materials. The space, now open thanks to the FAI, is a unique example in the panorama of the restoration and exhibition of the '50s, not only in Italy but also worldwide.

The two projections, lasting 30 minutes each, will be accompanied by an inaugural debate on Tuesday, May 20th at 6pm. De Cal, Renata Codello, Carlo Montanaro and Tobia Scarpa will be there to introduce the project.
