The third appointment 2014 of Surprise is dedicated to a selection of works and drawings by the artist Piero Fogliati.
Born in 1930 in Canelli, Fogliati began painting in the fifties. But since the early sixties he abandoned the practice of painting to start a search of the boundary between art and science, technology and urban utopia. Encouraged in this way from the discussions and comparisons that were being developed in Turin in the IARC, the International Center for Artistic Research Institute founded by Piero Simondo, Fogliati developed the idea of ??a radical transformation of the contemporary city in an aesthetic, based on the transformation of the atmosphere and weather phenomena into sound variations and colors. In devices built to experiment and inventions embody these mechanisms are not an end but a means to achieve ethereal effects, vibrations of air and light, apparitions.
The exhibition at GAM focuses on some devices Fogliati of light and sound, including two works acquired by the Foundation De Fornaris for the collections of the GAM and have never been exhibited before, entered into dialogue with the designs of the series The fantastic city, made between 1967 and 1970.
Surprise is an annual cycle of events dedicated to specific aspects of artistic research in Turin between the sixties and seventies. This series of exhibitions is curated by Maria Teresa Roberto, Professor of Contemporary Art History at the Accademia Albertina in Turin.
