On Friday, May 5th at 7.00 pm, artQ13 inaugurates Ubi Fracassorium, Ibi Fuggitorium, an exhibition project conceived by Carlo Caloro and produced by artQ13, Rome. Articulated in three locations and two mobile exhibition venues, the show presents a study of the cultural machine, understood as a set of human practices that transform nature, which, in turn - so transformed, affects the life of mankind. Fourteen international artists reflect on this double effect of human activity, taking their cue from the excess of activities, functions and relationships that result from it.
Parking lots, garages, cars, traffic – are all the result of the doings of each and every one, of the simple communal organization of life in all its aspects. Yet the perpetual acceleration of the rhythms imposed by the proliferation of our artefacts seems to inevitably lead to a disaster. The shrewd Pulcinella, invoked in the title of the exhibition, prefigures the tactics that artists in the project adopt towards this frenetic cultural expansion: Ubi fracassorium, ibi fuggitorium - "Where there is a disaster, there is always a way out". The mask of Pulcinella, as described by Giorgio Agamben, finds its essence in this ability to escape the imminent catastrophe - precisely because of the catastrophe. "(A) pure parabasis: an exit from the scene, from history, from the fatuous, inconsistent affair in which one would want to implicate him"; to interrupt, divert, subvert the incumbent peril.
artQ13 is a not-for-profit initiative, an open space where ideas and projects play in an open dimension: a broad ground in training and transformation. A device, a laboratory, a rehearsal room – for concepts and inventions – the identity of which is constantly remodeled by the activities of the participating artists.
