a.topos Venice is pleased to present Building Bridges, the first of five international collective exhibitions displaying the selected artworks from the open call “THE CREATIVE ROOM” . The artists involved are: Agata Treccani, Colectivo Suspeito (João Dias-Oliveira, Nuno Mota e Rossana Ribeiro), Doris Schamp & Michael Gruber, Collettivo AE (Luisella Zambon, Giancarlo Chirico e Gianluca Marasca) Pax Paloscia, omino71, Karin Fink (in collaboration with the “Anthroponauts” community), Marianne Schmid, Vera Vera e Ylenia Modolo.
This first show puts in dialogue works of art that explore the relation with the spectator, highlighting in particular how this relationship was affected during the pandemic. The exhibited art pieces face the change by trying to find answers to a collective need for self-renewal, an outcome accomplished by making use of the most recent technologies, from podcasts to digital interfaces, from Instagram to QR codes. By doing so, artists take on a socially active role in the fight against the current health emergency, and rediscover their own ability to cope with the sense of loneliness caused by social distancing, as well as to make up for the increasing need for connections.
Building Bridges aims to tease the visitor by proposing an intimate path, in a close connection with the artists’ creative process. It unfolds different aspects of a year marked by the pandemic and invites the audience to do the same, by sharing their own “window to the world” and opening a dialogue with the stories that brought to life the art pieces on display. The goal is to provoke a reflection able to keep building bridges and generating exchanges, leading to an empathetic process that allows the spectator to perceive the sensations and experiences felt by the artist - and their interlocutors - as lived in first person.
Opening 22 May, 2021 from 5 pm to 8 pm
