Section V.1, the mosaic with vine shoots

Small colored tiles draw sinuous vine shoots tied by a bow in one of the most interesting mosaics in the Archaeological Museum. The bright decorations on a black background are a testament to the close relations that Aquileia had for centuries with Greece and the East. Found in the dining room of a domus to the east of the city, the mosaic with vine shoots is an example of the richness of motifs elaborated by Aquileian artisans: geometric patterns, floral decorations, scenes of everyday life and refined inlays embellished the wealthiest residences and today they document the excellence of Aquileia in the art of mosaic.
