A XX-century railing hides the remains of the western part of the theatre from the Augustus age, while the nearby Royal Palace incorporates its eastern part. The building had a total diameter of 120 m and was placed near Porta Palatina to give easy access to out-of-town spectators. In addition to some pillars of the cavea, part of the steps and the orchestra level, a straight-lined wall which used to support the theatre cover is still visible.
