Even if tiny (31 square metres), Caffè Mulassano draws the attention of whoever walks under the colonnades of piazza Castello for its elegantly carved wooden entry, and for its sparkling interior, where colourful marbles alternate with wooden panels and bright brass inserts. But most of all the invention of tramezzino sandwich, created here in 1926 (it was D’Annunzio who christened it), is owed to this café, or better still to its former owners (the Nebiolo spouses). Out of the more than thirty different flavours, you should try lobster, truffle and bagna cauda hot dip tramezzino sandwich.
