Located inside Palazzo Carignano, the museum was re-opened on 18th March 2011 to celebrate the 150 years of Italian Unification with a new staging. Its establishment dates back to 1878 when, after the death of Victor Emmanuel II, first king of Italy, a decision was made to create a museum which would vouch for the historical events related to the birth of the nation. It preserves documents, weapons and relics from the Risorgimento (Italian Unification) to the First world war. Inside it houses the Subalpine Lower House and the Italian Parliament House.
