DESCRIZIONE:
The area, at the center of the Campus Martius, was uncovered thanks to the demolition of an entire block belonging to the Cesarini family undertaken between 1926-1929. The remnants of four temples from the republican age (111-11 B.C.), are quite visible, referred to by the letters A, B, C, D. The first (closest to Via del Plebiscito) was turned into a christian church in the Eighth Century (San Nicola de’ Calcarariis); ithe second with a circular layout is identified as Aedes Fortunae Huisce Diei (Fortune of this Day); the third is Ara di Postumio Albino; the fourth is still partially buried under the street (via Florida).

THINGS TO KNOW: The area made of blocks of tuff behind Temple B is probably the Curia Pompeia, one of the most famed places in history, where Caius Julius Caesar was killed on the Ides of March in 44 B.C.
