Great Ludovisi Sarcophagus

National Roman Museum Palazzo Altemps

DESCRIZIONE:

This is one of the most famous roman sarcophagi: it depicts, in high-relief, a battle won by the Romans against a barbarian population, most likely the Goths. Found in a tomb near Porta Tiburtina in 1621, it lost its lid in  1945, when the sarcophagus was exhibited in Mainz in Germany.
