Plastic Nude

Aligi Sassu

DESCRIZIONE:

This is one of the two paintings - the other was Man Drinking at the Spring - sent by Sassu to the 1928 Biennale in Venice and exhibited in the Italian Futurism room. While it can be considered the painting with the greatest breadth of scope of all his Futurist phase, the picture also contains the elements of the new path the artist was about to undertake. The handling is delicate, spread with a light hand, decidedly different from the flat colors of Futurist painting of the new generation. It tends instead to a solid possession of the forms, perceived by the artist as a continuation of the more "classical" character of his model Boccioni.
