Triumph of the Cross Mosaic
The work decorated the apse of the church in the Twelfth Century and is considered a masterpiece of roman mosaics of the Middle Ages. At its center is a Crucifixion which is also a Tree of Life from which emanate a series of acanthus leaves. In the upper section is the hand of the Holy Father in heaven, while amidst the plants in the lower section are the Doctors of the Church and other allegoric scenes.
