The Miracle of the Slave

The painting represents the painter’s first public affirmation thanks to the revolutionary glimpse of the saint rapidly intervening to stop the torture of the slave who has come to worship his relics without his master’s permission. The work was created for the Scuola Grande di San Marco, as was the later Theft of the Body of St Mark and the Miracle of the Saracen in the same museum.
