Cola dell’Amatrice. Works from the Pinacoteca Civica of Ascoli Piceno is the new project  – curated by Vittorio Sgarbi – of the Region of Lombardy. Taking place in two phases, the exhibit will be open at the Palazzo Lombardia on the 26th, 27th and 28th of May, then at the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum from the 27th of May to the 27th of August.

Keeping attention focused on the artistic patrimony of Central Italy
, so damaged by recent earthquakes, is the object of this Milanese initiative interpreting a whole region’s desire to be resurrected, beginning with the highlighting of its beautiful landscapes and art. The project is part of an effort of ICOM-International Council of Museums called Adopt a Museum to gather funds for the restoration of a work damaged in the 2016 earthquakes.

On the 39th floor of the Palazzo Lombardia, this exhibit dedicated to Cola from Amatrice opens with two great panels – the Sibyl from Hellespont and the Frigian Sibyl of the Exaltation of the Cross Polyptych, usually on display at the Pinacoteca Civica of Ascoli Piceno. From the same institution come the paintings that will be on display at the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum: two cross-carrying angels of the same period as the polyptych, and a pair of panels featuring the full-sized figures of the Grieving Madonna and St. John the Apostle, both of touching emotional intensity. Completing the exhibit will be a video reproducing images of the recent earthquakes that hit central Italy.

The exhibit is a project of the Region of Lombardy, and is curated by Vittorio Sgarbi. It is organized by the Bagatti Valsecchi Museum in collaboration with the Pinacoteca civica di Ascoli Piceno and with the support of XL Catlin. The displays in both locations were curated by the Studio Lissoni AssociatiArtslife and The Art Post Blog are the initiative’s media partners.
