This project intends to provide a deep look into the daily life of a young lesbian woman, Betania, and her love affair.
She is now 35 years old and she lives in Buenos Aires with her partner, Virgina.
In July 2010, Argentina became the first country in Latin America to legalize same-sex marriage in spite of vigorous opposition from the Catholic Church and the evangelical protestant churches.
Betania’s Love explores a lesbian yet universal language of attitudes, gestures, courage and autonomy. Through her story, it aims to show important aspects of lesbian intimacy, taken as a unique way of looking at the world, loving, and living.
Telling the couple’s daily life, it emphasizes the importance of small gestures and the role of empathy in the work of photography.
In addition, these pictures mean to paint the essential traits of an individual and very emotional love story, made up of passion, possession and sexual energy, to draw the observer’s attention on the aesthetic and visual expression of intimacy, and in a way to communicate what it feels like to be in love like there is no world outside, but only the here and now.
