On Tuesday December 5th there will be the inauguration of COM surrogate, the first collective of the season for the Richter Fine Art gallery, which will unite under the same roof the new works of Dario Carratta (1988), Alessandro Giannì (1989), Katarina Janečková (1988) and Silvio Saccà (1989).
COM surrogate is the name of a virus that has infected many Windows OS systems this year, and the artists were inspired to name their exhibition after it. The show will be an attempt to create an experimental «laboratory» based on the techniques and media of drawing and design and the possibilities that this artistic approach offers, as a direct perceptual stimulus, based almost exclusively on the use of the materials, the colours and the shapes and forms of the graphic marks.
The collective brings together four artists, all of them born in the late 1980s, who are stylistically very far apart and are connected only by the medium that they have used.
All of these works create an articulated and multi-faceted image that includes the analysis of reality and its memories-experiences effected by Dario Carratta, the intense and dynamic gestural graphic marks made by Alessandro Giannì, the erotic-emotional relationships explored by Katarina Janečková and the rediscovery of a punk-noise magic by Silvio Saccà.
Every work shown in the exhibition is the result of the immediate enthusiasm and intuition that constitute the impulse for beginning to create a new work in future, but can also be seen as effectively autonomous works, or as “post works” that document a previous creation.
These are «isolated» artistic phenomena that express a collective situation rather than a unanimous aesthetic code. But despite the various different personal approaches and viewpoints, the four artists who all belong to the same generation they are guided by the pressing desire to convey a common vision.
The collective exhibition has been conceived and arranged by the gallery owner Tommaso Richter with the aim of uniting several painters connected with the gallery, such as Dario Carratta and Alessandro Giannì, and of getting them in contact with the external artists Silvio Saccà and Katarina Janečková – the latter being the first international artist who has been invited to show in this gallery this year – so as to stimulate them and try out some experiments with the medium of drawing in the most visceral, original and creative ways possible.
* A catalogue will not be printed for this exhibition, but we have given each visitor the chance to create their own personalized catalogue or fanzine. In fact the lower floor of the gallery will be laid out and equipped as a workshop where anyone can choose from a range of images and texts to include in their catalogue. These materials will vary from day to day because the artists will be working in the gallery every day until the end of the show.
