From July 19 to August 1 2014, the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana offers in the Monumental Rooms of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, an exhibition dedicated to the codes with Mark's Byzantine musical notation, in conjunction with the XVII edition of the international conference 'Cantus Planus', official group study of the International Musicological Society (IMS), which the Congress of the Fondazione Ugo and Olga Levi onlus is the local organizer.
Among the rich and precious collections of the Biblioteca Marciana, the more than 1,000 music manuscripts include, among other things, in addition to the fund and the fund codes contariniani Canal, with compositions ranging from the sixteenth to the twentieth century, notable examples of a repertoire so far little studied: that of the Greek manuscripts with musical notation. The exhibition will include marciani's Byzantine and Post-14 codes, dating from the tenth to the seventeenth century, containing texts with notation ecfonetica, necessary for chanting the Holy Scriptures, and melodica, used for the singing of hymns many and varied of the Greek Church, and theoretical treatises that explain also the meaning of the signs.
The manuscripts chosen to exemplify the features of Byzantine notation in the course of its history belong to some of the main provisions of the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Venice: a code bessarioneo two Recanati, ten belonged to the family Dwarves, and one from the monastery of San Michele Murano.
Curators of the exhibition: Sandra Martan and Silvia Tessari, with the collaboration of Susy Marcon, Ursula Braides, Anna and Elizabeth Claut Lugato. Equipment: Claudia well dressed. At the Show is accessed with input from the Museo Correr and the ticket of the integrated path of the Museums of St. Marco's Square.
