The University Ca' Foscari is hosting the debut outside Russia of the famous painter Viktor Popkov. "Dream and reality. Viktor Popkov 1932-1974" will be at the Ca' Foscari Exhibition from February 19 to April 27, admission is free, and open the program of initiatives for the tourism Italy -Russia year. From 22 May to 24 June, the exhibition will continue on British soil.
The exhibition about 45 paintings among his most important works , the current form of expression and favorite themes: life, fate and death, sometimes disguised in seemingly ordinary subjects or officers. The shots of the great photographer Igor ' Pal'min, teacher of Russian photography , will recreate the historical context , recalling the social and cultural history of those years, and helping at the same time to point out the substance of the issues raised by the artist in his paintings.
The exhibition will be accompanied by documentary on the life of the painter and the sources of his artistic production, such as 'The coat of the father', directed by Ja . Merimov, and original media developed by the Center for Studies on Russia's Arts of the University Ca' Foscari with qualified national collaborations.
In this circumstance the interest of the CSAR Ca' Foscari is however not only to highlight the development of the expressive path to Popkov. His "hard look" is able to make us catch combinations, contiguity and differences in a context - that previous to the emergence of conceptual art - that still deserves to be carefully investigated. It is a task that the CSAR was given a few years, that is, to engage critically with some nodes of the Russian artistic life during the twentieth century look out for new types of periodization , internal partition , through a point of view at least partially disconnected from a established museological and historiographical tradition.
The exhibition opens Popkov of a dense series of cultural initiatives for 2014 , which is the year of Russian tourism in Italy , a good number of coordinates, for Italy, right from the center of Ca' Foscari: exhibitions, conferences, film festivals, forums, seminars and shows.
