For its quality and abundance of pieces, this is the greatest european collection of its kind. The collection, which consists of over one thousand works, is mostly made up of instruments gathered by collector and opera singer Evangelista Gorga, and covers an arc of time from the late-hellenistic to the Twentieth century.
Among the masterpieces, there is a Trumpet from 1461, a Harpsichord made in Leipzig in 1537 and, above all, the so-called Barberini Harp (shown in the painting Allegoria della Musica by Lanfranco at Palazzo Barberini).
