Fornarina
National Gallery of Ancient Art in Palazzo Barberini

The most celebrated painting in the collection. It is a portrait of Margherita Luti, daughter of a baker in Trastevere, famous for being the lover and model of Raphael. The young lady, painted semi-nude like a Venus, as underlined by the myrtle bush in the background, sacred plant of the goddess, has a bracelet on her left arm with the inscription Raphael Urbinas.
