No one has been able to precisely date the magnificent altarpiece by Giovanni Bellini, which he created for the Church of San Giobbe. However, Sabellico’s Guide to Venice, published in 1490, makes reference to the work which, from then on, is mentioned many times in various works of literature. It is an undeniable masterpiece from the artist’s later years, which definitively embraces the Venetian tradition of both compositional invention and colour choice.
