Miart is a fair in which modern and contemporary art communicate constant references with explicit echoes; it affords a situation to grasp links between the past and present. miart will emphasize this aspect aspiring to work on the possibility of testing institutional strategies that differ from existing models, the aim being to set out along a path in which miart plays an active role in modern and contemporary production throughout the entire year, not just during the days of the art fair. 

Sections

Established 

A selection of international galleries that promote modern and contemporary art, subdivided into Masters, Contemporary and First Step.
Masters:
A category for galleries that show artworks made before the year 2000, in a selection that ranges from the masters of modern art to artists being rediscovered today.
Contemporary:
A category for primary market galleries that focus on contemporary languages, from current classics to new and recent productions.
First Step:
A category devoted to galleries participating for the first time at miart or which participated in the past in the Emergent section and are now passing to the Established section. Participation in the First Step category is permitted for a maximum of two editions of the fair.
 
Decades
A section that pays tribute to the central role of galleries and their history in an itinerary that crosses the 20th century, divided by decades. Each booth, through a monographic or thematic exhibition, presents a key moment of the period in question.

THENnow
Invitational curated section. Each booth – shared by two different galleries – presents a dialogue between works by two artists from different generations, in an interaction between historical impact and experimentation.

Emergent
A section for young galleries with no more than five years of experience at the moment of registration (October 2015), whose programming focuses on the latest generations.

Section on galleries active in the promotion of experimental design, decorative arts and limited editions, whose activities are the result of close collaboration with designers.

Miartalks

Realized in collaboration with production company In Between Art Film, the miartalks 2016 function as a cross-disciplinary forum that brings together leading international artists, curators, filmmakers, directors of institutions, writers and others engaged with the visual and performing arts to consider how time based practices are re-defining the boundaries of contemporary art.

Il Simbolismo. Arte in Europa dalla Belle Époque alla Grande Guerra

The exhibition compares around 150 works among paintings, sculptures and works of decorative art, coming from both the most important Italian and European museums and private collections. The projects aims to evoke the ideal ambition of Simbolism to create a total work of art.
 
Umberto Boccioni (1882-1916). Genio e Memoria

On the centenary of the death of Umberto Boccioni Milan celebrates the artist with an exhibition, the outcome of an unprecedented collaboration between the Castello Sforzesco, the Museo del Novecento and Palazzo Reale. On display are over 250 works, with drawings, paintings, sculptures, engravings, period photographs, books, reviews and documents, an exceptional set of 60 drawings by Boccioni of the Castello Sforzesco, writings and unpublished documents recently rediscovered.
 
2050. Breve storia del futuro

The exhibition takes its name from the book with the same title by Jacques Attali, published in 2006, hypothesize the future of the world and our society. Previously presented at the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium in Brussels, the group show relates to the issues discussed by Attali in eight stations and with about 50 works by international artists of contemporary art.

The first remarkable Retrospective of Herb Ritts, creator of the most incisive, dreamlike, perfect images of the Hollywood star system. Herb Ritts brings back to life, through his black and white photographs, the ancient Greek sculptures, the Renaissance art, and the formal composition of the early 20th century photography.
 
MUDEC
JOAN MIRÓ: la forza della materia

After Gauguin, an exhibition dedicated to Miró continues the MUDEC exhibition itinerary dedicated to artists influenced by the “primitivism” of extra-European cultures. With more than 100 artworks, the project focuses on the constant importance of matter in Miró’s art.
