April 23 Light Gallery inaugurates the first monographic Matt Mignanelli: Grattan Street.
The title of the exhibition is a way of Brooklyn, New York, that the artist sees from his studio, a place that has greatly influenced his perception on the urban landscape and architecture in which he lives and works.
The young Mignanelli was definitely influenced by Ellsworth Kelly, whose paintings have always inspired a widespread feeling of calm and tranquility, the same quiet calm that probably communicate to visitors the paintings of monochromatic Mignanelli: works characterized by contamination of an elegant architectural vision of the design space and a linearity fruit of light and energy together.
In the series of monochromatic works Mignanelli review the continuous interactions between the light and the surface through the use of alternating reflecting planes and opaque to the persistent search for purity and simplicity.
The elegance and minimalism of the work creates an ongoing challenge with the surface structure in an alternation of two and three dimensional forms.
Showcasing a series of monochrome paintings in black and white.
Matt Mignanelli was founded in 1983 in Providence, RI, lives and works in New York. Solo exhibitions include Marianne Friis Gallery, Copenhagen, Denmark, Stories Unfold, Richard Heller Gallery, Los Angeles, CA, Nonstop, Dubner Moderne, Lausanne, Svizzera.Tra group shows Linear Abstract, EXP Museum of Art, Savannah, GA, Hart Heming, Marianne Friis Gallery, Copenhagen, Denmark, King Defne 2012, Goss-Michael Foundation, Dallas.
