In the beautiful environment of the fifteenth century Bollani Dolfin overlooking Campo Marina and at the 56th International Art Exhibition - La Biennale di Venezia, the American artist Vaughn Stevens presents his first solo exhibition in Italy entitled "Water Calligraphy "curated by Massimo Scaringella.
The artistic experience of Stevens Vaughn legacy of his experiences in China and Japan, evolves a way to see beyond the aesthetic expression in a state of great privilege. Why not look outside, but inside. In its origins, in his being, choosing the perfect gesture, the ideal form, in proportions to contradict, color display and signs dream to sublimate. The artist says: "I have a fascination for rituals. Rituals create a sense of order in my life The mystery is the essence of my being. "
"A picture is not something about experience: it is an experience." You might start with this thought of Mark Rothko to describe the work of Stevens Vaughn that expresses the sense of a visual essentiality, apparently confused, but structurally linked to the ironic and colorful life, which expresses his irrepressible sign a depistante line gestural, driven by a manual impetuosity, full identity of expressionism emotional and cultural inserted into a solid reality. The structure, perhaps better said the "ritual" of each work is made then as the expression of a thought nonverbal, transformed into an articulated and consolidated in the revelation of reality, where it collects a stylistic exercise that can transform the desire in 'irony of creativity, in a delayed expansion of time and space. Spots, sagging fast, bullying color, they contain the definition of space, contending the nature and poetry research of formal solutions work, settled in a disturbing use of a primordial element as is water. In making art Stevens Vaughn always uses, like a ritual, the technique of "dripping" that does not mean pulling the color randomly. On the contrary, it means with a search experimented, distribute every drop of pigment with one of his relative order where the instability of the free fluid jet can give rise to different figures: it can break into droplets, can splash depending on impact with the surface but always in a balanced way, or, as in some of the more recent work, the folding of the sheet determines the chromatic surface. Whatever it is, it does not give anything to style it to the needs of the viewer, but only the tenacious and patient chase color, often diluted with water making it faster, the immaculate sheets of paper, expressing a search for something that c ' It is that it exists. Often there is not even a story to describe and you get directly into the image by bending technique need expressive vision.
