Roman Ruins
Historical Center
- Location: Roman Ruins
- Date: 1749
Also known as L’archeologo, the Archeologist, the work represents a typical theme of Pannini, known to history as the greatest proponent of “ruinism”, an artistic trend in vogue during the 1700s and the 1800s, typified by views of archeological sites made fantastical with “capricci”, fanciful elements.
The scene depicts an archeologist studying an enormous marble piece within a site dominated by the remains of a large ionic temple.
