The manuscript of the first Russian translation of the famous Treatise on Architecture by Andrea Palladio (published in Venice in 1570), attributed to Prince Dolgorukov, bears the date of 1699 and since then the great Italian architect became a point of reference even in the land of the Tsars .
The exhibition "Russia Palladian. Palladio and Russia from Baroque to Modernism "is organized by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation as part of the official celebrations of the Year of Russia-Italy Tourism in 2014.
The choice to focus the exposition on the influence that the work of the legendary master of the late Renaissance had on the history of Russian architecture is profound reasons in the role that Andrea Palladio exerted in the history of architecture. He was, in fact, as well as universally recognized, the figure who most influenced the art of building in the world.
In Russia, the name of Andrea Palladio has always had a special significance, not only because due to the excellence of the Italian Renaissance as well as the main source of inspiration for the architectural design of the country, as well as a model for the formation of conscience and of everyday life.
To take a familiar example, the cultural phenomenon of the purely Russian construction dell'usad'ba, or of the country house, has as its inspiration the work of Palladio.
Born from a collaboration between the Foundation of Venice Civic Museums and Exhibition Centre-State ROSIZO museum in Moscow, with the support of the State Museum of Architecture AV Scusev - Moscow, and the CSAR (Center for Studies in the Arts of the University Ca Russia 'Foscari Venezia), the exhibition, curated by Arkady Ippolitov and Vasily Uspensky of the Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg, is a project of Zelfira Tregulova, Director of the State Museum-exhibition Center ROSIZO.
The exhibition, entirely new to the contents and the scientific results published in the catalog, but also for its design, allowing for the first time to follow the story, now tricenten-, Palladians in Russian through a significant number of material unknown to the public, from the funds of the most prestigious museums and archives in Russia.
Among those who participated in the project include The Hermitage and the State Russian Museum in St. Petersburg, the State Museum of AS Pushkin Fine Arts, the State Tretyakov Gallery in Moscow, the State Museum of Architecture AV Scusev, the State Historical Museum, the Museum of the estate of Ostankino in Moscow, the State Museum of ceramics estate Kuskovo of the eighteenth century, the museum-estate Arhangelskoe, the Russian State Archive of ancient documents, the Museum of the History of St. Petersburg, Museum of the Russian Academy of Fine Arts, the Museum-apartment of II Brodsky, the State Museum-reserve Peterhof, Pavlovsk State Museum-reserve, the State Museum-reserve Tsarskoye Selo, the Russian National Library, the Library of the Academy Academy of Sciences, the art Gallery of the Tver region, the Union of Cherepovets museum, the state museum-reserve of architecture and the arts of Pskov and the Museum of Modern Art in Perm.
