From January 22 to February 22, the Cafe Florian in Venice hosts the Hall of Seasons installation titled "Not known" artist and writer Florentine Freno Persciacalli. The title of the project curated by Stefano Stipitivich, "Florian Underground", refers to the original location of the work, previously exhibited in the basement of the Cafe Florian in Florence in via del Parione, reflecting the common thread that binds the local Florentine at the Venetian .
The installation consists of a set of dishes for industrial cakes positioned on one of the walls of the room, within which the artist draws with India ink some fragmented faces of fictional characters, not recognizable and not known. Hence the title of the work, resulting from the custom of time to transcribe on identity cards the names of the parents; in the documents of the orphans was reported instead the symbol NN (unknown), expression re-used to classify his characters. The work of Florian becomes a tribute to the silent people that animates Coffee understood as meeting places, in a society where the web seems to be the only virtual marketplace where you can communicate. In the same room there will also cups of Cafe Florian painted by the artist himself, on which is depicted a character in different poses and viewed from different angles. Parallel with the exhibition, the artist will disseminate some of the works between the streets of Venice, as did in Florence and how often uses do after its exhibitions: small installations that brake Persciacalli called "leavers" and that will remain in the possession of the person who will . In this way, the artist interacts with a diverse audience, not just with those who frequent the well-known local Venetian. It 'also a way, part of the artist, to launch his personal message to a world of art in his judgment increasingly linked to business.
Marco Paolini, CEO of Cafe Florian, points out: "As usual the Cafe Florian, the artist was not simply asked to bring his work, but to create the works" site-specific ", to reinterpret the space of Florian , making it their own. The artist Frenopersciacalli, with his creativity, has caught the spirit of this project, "underground" that he is the protagonist of an installation inaugurated in Florence in the basement of coffee, and now comes from the cellars to be admired in the Hall of Seasons in Venice during Carnival. "
In a top position in the arcades of Sighs in Piazza San Marco in Venice, the Caffè Florian is the oldest Italian coffee and is a symbol of the city. Opened December 29, 1720 by Floriano Francesconi under the name "At VeneziaTrionfante", was quickly called by patrons Florian, named after its owner, becoming the most popular "botega Coffee". In the mid-nineteenth century was completely renovated and designed by Lodovico Cadorin, becoming what we admire today. From the beginning, the Caffè Florian was the place of art and culture and today hosts major events involving internationally renowned artists. After almost three centuries, as well as being a treasure trove of history and art, Florian is also an important and recognized outside of the lagoon city with the opening of "Coffee", in the style and tradition Florian, Florence and Rome, the Foreign Ministry and also in London. The Florian has become so an icon of good taste and style Venetian and Italian in the world.
