It is an elegant pedestrian area beginning in piazza Castello, in axis with the Juvarra-made facade of Palazzo Madama, and ending in piazza Statuto. The section to via della Consolata corresponds to the Roman decumanus and from the Middle Ages to the mid-1800s it was called the “contrada di Dora Grossa”, because here the largest doira (in Turin language "canal") of the city used to run. In 1736 it was "straightened" to turn it into a renowned shopping street. Architectural highlights are the churches of SS. Trinità, of SS. Martiri, of San Dalmazzo and Palazzo di Città.
