Havakuk and the Angel
Basilica di St. Maria del Popolo
The statue was created by Bernini in completing the work on the Chigi Chapel a century after Raphael. The sculptural group was realized, along with Daniel and the Lion, after its patron had already become Pope – Alexander VII. The two works complete a single narrative: the angel brings the prophet Havakuk to feed the starving Daniel, who has been thrown in a lion's pit and left for days, with soup and bread.
